“”THE DEER LIVE””
I have finished up huntin for the 2011 seasons “”THE DEER LIVE”” The final day of our Missouri Blackpowder was almost a perfect day for huntin. Notice I said “ALMOST” it would have been “PERFECT” if the deer had been moving. Oh well there’s always next year.

7th Day of Blackpowder 2011 season
What a great day the 7th day of Blackpowder was, sunny no wind and very cool. Spent a few hours in my ladderstand and few hours still hunting through the woods, enjoying the day. As usual the deer were not moving and I never jumped any up. My camera's still showing them coming by the stand in the dark. Think they are in the next county over. But all in all it was a great day. Love my new Garmin GPS, don't have to worry about getting turned around now in the Mark Twain National Forest. Finally got the thing figured out.
I won't be hunting Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Just going to enjoy the weekend with my wife Shirley and our dog Suzy.

2nd day of BP is over
THE DEER ARE NOT MOVING EXCEPT AT NIGHT AND THE RUT IS OVER. 12 days huntin in the 2011 season and have not seen a deer. Gonna be samething as 2010 N-O-T-H-I-N-G seen to shoot at. Moon phase was all bad and we had an abundant acorn crop 2010 & 2011.

BP opening morning
4 hours in the ladderstand from first light in 20o weather was enough, even though it was clear and no wind. Nothing came by and only heard 1 shot far North. Was back in the stand at 3 pm. Beautiful afternoon hunt 48o sunny very light occasional breeze, was on stand until almost dark. Nothing moving and no shots. Guess there not moving.

5 more days to 2011 Blackpowder Season
5 more days until opening blackpowder Saturday December 17, 2011.
Got pictures of a coupla does and a large antlered 6 point at my stand on the stateland. I made a mock scrape on the stateland and our property Friday December 9, 2011. Don't know if the scrape will do any good this year being so late in the season.
Modified the 4 wheeler to attach the deer cart to the trailer hitch and bolted the carrybox to the front carrier. And cleaned the corrosion best as possible out of the barrel down near the breech plug of the blackpowder rifle, have not tried to seat a bullet yet, hope it seats easier than it did. Gotta remember to super clean the barrel when I am done this year.

First good snow of the year
Got a dusting last night, but the snow is falling good now at 11:00am, Tuesday December 6, 2011. Not the big wet flakes but small dry flakes. Didn't last long, just enough to barely cover the ground. We had a light dusting about 4 days ago. Tempeture is forcast in the low 20o to the mid 30's all week with more snow mid week. Keeps up like this Blackpowder season December 17th should have the deer moving.

12 Days and counting until Blackpowder
Well things are starting to look up here on the farm. My wife saw 4 does this morning at 9 am, drove to within 50 feet of them before they went to the woods. And I saw 3 last week. No bucks but they gotta be here, the sly old one's anyway. Hope the does survive the hunt, gotta have seed for the upcoming years. It is spitting snow today and temps in the low 20's with highs forcast in the mid 30's. through this week. Our blackpowder starts a week from this Saturday, the 17th. So maybe it will be better than our rifle season was with the high winds, mild temps and a full moon. All you guys up North wish the OLD redneck Okie here on the farm in Missouri - LUCK !! Gotta remember to kick out the thickets, walk the draws and find the White Oak acrons, least that is what to look for here in Missouri. Good LUCK to all my buddy's everywhere! Later

Final Day of the 2011 Deer Gun Season
As the last day of the 2011 gun deer season came to the close today, the score remains "deer 100% - Jim 0%" Here's hoping Lady Luck of the December Blackpower season smiles upon me.

Day 7 of the 2011 gun season
Well 7 days and 30 hours of hunting later I still have not seen hide nor hair of a deer in the woods. That included my land, 2 different parcels of Forest Land and 300 acres of private. That includes mostly stand hunting but some walking. I am going to give it 5-6 hours Saturday. If it holds the same I am going to say to hell with it for the 2011 gun season. Rest up for 3 weeks until Blackpowder and try it again.

Tuesday Day 4 of the season
I enjoyed a day of R&R after 3 days in the woods and never seeing a deer I felt I needed a day off to recoup. And I did enjoy today. It's suppose to be a nice day tomorrow, Wednesday day 5 calling for a low of 30o and a high of 50o very little wind and clear and sunny, watch out deer here I come "again"

Third Day of the 2011 Season
3 days in the woods, in tree stand 11 hours Saturday, 2 hours Sunday, 5 hours Monday. How many deer have I killed, how many deer have I seen the answer to both questions - ZIP - ZERO - NONE. This weather needs to change. Shots heard Sunday and Monday mighty mighty few.

Opening day deer season 2011
The common question "Did you get anything today?" My answer is yes after 11 hours in my stand I got WIND BURN and a $125.00 fine, because my 4 wheeler was on a old logging road on Stateland and not on there damn numbered road. Ain't that a bummer. Oh and I didn't mention I didn't get a deer opening day.

Tomorrows the day
I just checked the game camera on my land at 10:45am. No deer pictures for the last 4 days, they know its getting close. Up to the last 4 days, I had pictures just about everyday. I hope this is not like it's going to be during season. Going to check the camera on my Stateland this afternoon. Same results as my land no pictures for the last 4 days.

One day left before opening morning
Going out tomorrow Friday November 11, 2011 and change out the SD disks in my game camera's and hope the deer are still using my new stateland area and my personal property here on the farm.
Yucky Week
Be glad you don't have a Ranger. My ABS brake warning light kept coming on, trouble code 12 (low brake fluid) - Bad senser in the master cylinder. Of course you can't change the senser you have to change the complete master cylinder, and of course the wiring harness connector was corroded so bad it had broken terminals. So parts and labor $230.00 to turn off a damn warning light. I hate senser's. And on top of that my kitchen stove electronic ignitors died so we gotta get a new stove. Then to top everything off Shirley somehow ended up with a pinched siatic nerve in her lower back so she is in severe pain in her complete right leg, so between doctors, hospital xray, catscans and theropy it has been hecktick around here this week and to top everything off - ITS ONLY 3 DAYS TO DEER SEASON. Well enough bitching hope your day is going better

3 more days
3 days and its opening day, suppose to be 40 degrees opening morning, with a high of 68 "Not Deer Hunting Weather" But no rain is forcast, but is suppose to be partly cloudy. I have seen a lot of hunters in new trucks pulling big 5th wheels coming in for this season. I will go out Friday and change my game cameras SD disks and see if the deer are still using my new area. More to come!

6 days and counting
November the 12 next Saturday will be here before you know it. My game camera in my new area shows plenty of deer using the area. Got pictures of a 4 point, a spike, a button, does and yearlings. Should be a good year. Had a front come through yesterday with rain and wind and a lot cooler tempetures. Had a high of 50 today.

18 days and counting
Went out to the stand yesterday and made sure my ladder stand was still tight to the tree "it was" also put up a game camera to see if anything was coming by my stand. About 1/2 of the leaf's are now off the tree's in my area, the wind is really blowing today so that should get rid of a lot more of them. It has been in the 70's for the last week, but rain is suppose to come in tonight through Thursday and the temperature is predicted in the 50's. So thing are getting there, should be a good season.

Update on the Jam
LD and myself showed up and setup our sound equipment, we were the only musicians there outside of Bruce the Steel player who got there before we did. Even though the Jam was short of musicians it was a fun night. We enjoyed ourself's and the people there enjoyed the music. We did get a little help from Lonnie Chandler and Jerry Beasley on vocals. At least LD got some rehearsal time in for his solo performance at the Rolla Hospital in thanks for their help in his recovery from phenomia

JAM NIGHT
Me and my buddy LD Stamp are heading out tomorrow night October the 21st to a jam session at the
Steeleville Country Club. They don't have a sound system for the jam so we are taking our setup, amp, mics and speakers. I finally get to play out live with LD, I will be using my new Fender Strat. Should be a fun night

Food For Thought
Become aware that the complexity you wish to unravel exists to a greater degree in your own mind than in the problem itself.

OK now I am ready for the 2011 season
Well its a little over 5 weeks until the 2011 gun season is here. I have my ladder stand up on the state land, its
about a 1/4 mile from the area I used to use. Actually the new area is just as good as the old if not better, at least I hope so, I have only failed 1 year of not harvesting a deer since 2000 when we bought the farm here in Crawford County, Missouri, that year was 2010, seems just about everyone around here had about the same luck in 2010. It's hard to realize I started hunting in 1976 with my cousin Byler in Oklahoma, and I have not missed a opening day since my first hunt 45 years ago, now I am telling my age. I am getting quite a few pictures of deer with my game camera, again more than 2010. Opening day will be here before we know it. Still gotta take the rifles up to my 100 yard shooting range here on the farm, just to be sure they are still sighted in. There will be more to come as the season progresses. Before getting around to checking the rifles, I took the tractor out back and brushogged the range, looks like a golf course now, before I could not even see the backstop or the range marker stakes, but I am good to go now.

1st Hunting Story for 2011
This may have happened to you but I hope not. Even though I have deer on my property including the nice 10 that is my display image; I do very little hunting on my property, protecting the herd I guess you could say. I primarily hunt the state land across the road from our farm. I have hunted the same area using the "same" tree for my ladder stand since 2000 ( almost-11 years ) I have seen deer and harvested a deer from the same tree for these past 10 years. I put up my ladder stand the last week of September each year, this year when I get to "my" tree which is way off the beaten path and deep in the forest - guess what I find, some Axx Hole has a game camera chained to a tree not 10 yards from the tree my stand goes against along with about 20# of corn and a mineral lick on the ground. This person must have noticed me using this tree over the years and decided "HEY" that must be a "GOOD" spot. Odd as it seems there are very very few hunters pass through the area where I hunt. OH well I wish him well, I am now about a quarter mile North of my old area, actually in a area I had given some serious thought to trying out, it is even deeper in the woods and nearer the thicket the deer bed in. So wish me luck this year.
