“”THE DEER LIVE””

I have finished up huntin for the 2011 seasons “”THE DEER LIVE”” The final day of our Missouri Blackpowder was almost a perfect day for huntin. Notice I said “ALMOST” it would have been “PERFECT” if the deer had been moving. Oh well there’s always next year.

7th Day of Blackpowder 2011 season

What a great day the 7th day of Blackpowder was, sunny no wind and very cool. Spent a few hours in my ladderstand and few hours still hunting through the woods, enjoying the day. As usual the deer were not moving and I never jumped any up. My camera's still showing them coming by the stand in the dark. Think they are in the next county over. But all in all it was a great day. Love my new Garmin GPS, don't have to worry about getting turned around now in the Mark Twain National Forest. Finally got the thing figured out.

I won't be hunting Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Just going to enjoy the weekend with my wife Shirley and our dog Suzy.

2nd day of BP is over

THE DEER ARE NOT MOVING EXCEPT AT NIGHT AND THE RUT IS OVER. 12 days huntin in the 2011 season and have not seen a deer. Gonna be samething as 2010 N-O-T-H-I-N-G seen to shoot at. Moon phase was all bad and we had an abundant acorn crop 2010 & 2011.

BP opening morning

4 hours in the ladderstand from first light in 20o weather was enough, even though it was clear and no wind. Nothing came by and only heard 1 shot far North. Was back in the stand at 3 pm. Beautiful afternoon hunt 48o sunny very light occasional breeze, was on stand until almost dark. Nothing moving and no shots. Guess there not moving.

5 more days to 2011 Blackpowder Season

5 more days until opening blackpowder Saturday December 17, 2011.
Got pictures of a coupla does and a large antlered 6 point at my stand on the stateland. I made a mock scrape on the stateland and our property Friday December 9, 2011. Don't know if the scrape will do any good this year being so late in the season.

Modified the 4 wheeler to attach the deer cart to the trailer hitch and bolted the carrybox to the front carrier. And cleaned the corrosion best as possible out of the barrel down near the breech plug of the blackpowder rifle, have not tried to seat a bullet yet, hope it seats easier than it did. Gotta remember to super clean the barrel when I am done this year.

First good snow of the year

Got a dusting last night, but the snow is falling good now at 11:00am, Tuesday December 6, 2011. Not the big wet flakes but small dry flakes. Didn't last long, just enough to barely cover the ground. We had a light dusting about 4 days ago. Tempeture is forcast in the low 20o to the mid 30's all week with more snow mid week. Keeps up like this Blackpowder season December 17th should have the deer moving.

12 Days and counting until Blackpowder

Well things are starting to look up here on the farm. My wife saw 4 does this morning at 9 am, drove to within 50 feet of them before they went to the woods. And I saw 3 last week. No bucks but they gotta be here, the sly old one's anyway. Hope the does survive the hunt, gotta have seed for the upcoming years. It is spitting snow today and temps in the low 20's with highs forcast in the mid 30's. through this week. Our blackpowder starts a week from this Saturday, the 17th. So maybe it will be better than our rifle season was with the high winds, mild temps and a full moon. All you guys up North wish the OLD redneck Okie here on the farm in Missouri - LUCK !! Gotta remember to kick out the thickets, walk the draws and find the White Oak acrons, least that is what to look for here in Missouri. Good LUCK to all my buddy's everywhere! Later
