A video on how to get to our farm - Interstate 44 to Cuba, Mo. exit 208 - highway 19 south - 23 miles to the farm - click the lower right corner of the video for full screen

18 days and counting

Went out to the stand yesterday and made sure my ladder stand was still tight to the tree "it was" also put up a game camera to see if anything was coming by my stand.  About 1/2 of the leaf's are now off the tree's in my area, the wind is really blowing today so that should get rid of a lot more of them.  It has been in the 70's for the last week, but rain is suppose to come in tonight through Thursday and the temperature is predicted in the 50's.  So thing are getting there, should be a good season.

Update on the Jam

LD and myself showed up and setup our sound equipment, we were the only musicians there outside of Bruce the Steel player who got there before we did.  Even though the Jam was short of musicians it was a fun night.  We enjoyed ourself's and the people there enjoyed the music.  We did get a little help from Lonnie Chandler and Jerry Beasley on vocals.  At least LD got some rehearsal time in for his solo performance at the Rolla Hospital in thanks for their help in his recovery from phenomia

JAM NIGHT

Me and my buddy LD Stamp are heading out tomorrow night October the 21st to a jam session at the
Steeleville Country Club.  They don't have a sound system for the jam so we are taking our setup, amp, mics and speakers.  I finally get to play out live with LD, I will be using my new Fender Strat. Should be a fun night

2010 Snow at the farm

OK now I am ready for the 2011 season

Well its a little over 5 weeks until the 2011 gun season is here.  I have my ladder stand up on the state land, its
about a 1/4 mile from the area I used to use.  Actually the new area is just as good as the old if not better, at least I hope so, I have only failed 1 year of not harvesting a deer since 2000 when we bought the farm here in Crawford County, Missouri, that year was 2010, seems just about everyone around here had about the same luck in 2010.  It's hard to realize I started hunting in 1976 with my cousin Byler in Oklahoma, and I have not missed a opening day since my first hunt  45 years ago, now I am telling my age.  I am getting quite a few pictures of deer with my game camera, again more than 2010.  Opening day will be here before we know it.  Still gotta take the rifles up to my 100 yard shooting range here on the farm, just to be sure they are still sighted in.  There will be more to come as the season progresses.  Before getting around to checking the rifles, I took the tractor out back and brushogged the range, looks like a golf course now, before I could not even see the backstop or the range marker stakes, but I am good to go now.

1st Hunting Story for 2011

This may have happened to you but I hope not.  Even though I have deer on my property including the nice 10 that is my display image;  I do very little hunting on my property, protecting the herd I guess you could say.  I primarily hunt the state land across the road from our farm.  I have hunted the same area using the "same" tree for my ladder stand since 2000 ( almost-11 years ) I have seen deer and harvested a deer from the same tree for these past 10 years.  I put up my ladder stand the last week of September each year,  this year when I get to "my" tree which is way off the beaten path and deep in the forest - guess what I find, some Axx Hole has a game camera chained to a tree not 10 yards from the tree my stand goes against along with about 20# of corn and a mineral lick on the ground.  This person must have noticed me using this tree over the years and decided "HEY" that must be a "GOOD" spot.  Odd as it seems there are very very few hunters pass through the area where I hunt.  OH well I wish him well, I am now about a quarter mile North of my old area, actually in a area I had given some serious thought to trying out, it is even deeper in the woods and nearer the thicket the deer bed in.  So wish me luck this year.
